Mission & Vision

Our research philosophy and vision for the future of human-AI collaboration.

Who we are

The Collaborative AI (Co-AI) group is part of the Image Processing Laboratory (IPLab) at the University of Catania. We study how AI systems can perceive and understand the real world from an embodied, first-person perspective, enabling timely, context-aware feedback and assistance.

Vision

We envision AI assistants that perceive the world through wearable and ambient sensors, build rich episodic memories of what has happened, and reason about what should happen next to help people achieve their goals. Rather than replacing human action, these systems are designed to support it by anticipating future steps, identifying mistakes, and providing the minimal effective cue at the right time.

Research

Our research spans streaming perception and memory, task and skill modelling, and assistance. We develop methods that go beyond passive recognition to capture long-horizon dependencies, task graphs, and action scene graphs in egocentric settings.
